Additional Notes of Dean Somers
Dean L. Somers MINNEAPOLIS — Mr. Dean L. Somers, 86, of Minneapolis, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Ottawa County Health Center. Mr. Somers was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Delphos, the son of the late Leon L. and Mary M. (Kleiner) Somers. He was a graduate of Delphos High School. Dean was a business owner, shipping coordinator for El Dorado Industries, Minneapolis, butcher and, in retirement, worked for Waters Hardware. He also was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Salina, the American Legion and was a World War II veteran. He served in Germany, Luxemborg and in Belgium. Dean is survived by two daughters, DeeAnn Rolph (Jack), of Delphos, and Trudy Baoko, of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Terry Somers (Marcia), of Mount Hope; three stepsons, T. Wayne Day, of Winston Salem, N.C., L. Rodger Day, of Marathon, Fla., and Randym Day (Robin), of Denver; as well as eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jeanne Anne (Goddard) Somers, on March 27, 1969; his second wife, Betty Ann “Jeri” Somers, on Feb. 29, 2008; three brothers; and three sisters. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio, Salina 67401, with the Rev. Jon M. Fillipi officiating. Mr. Somers donated his body to medical research at KU Medical Center, and there will not be any visitation.
